Hiking to Knife Ridge.

Photos and words: Mike Thomas

After going nearly a month without any new powder snow to ride, the locals were getting a bit antsy by the time this recent storm rolled through and socked in Wolf Creek, dumping a much-needed 28 inches. And just like that the long dry lull and spring-like conditions snapped right back to the dead of winter as some of the driest, highest quality snow to fall yet this season. We were sure to take advantage of supreme locations on Jan. 28th and 30th after the storm cleared out and the blue skies and warm sun emerged. Knife Ridge, Alberta Peak and all of the Alberta area were in prime shape as things filled in enough to ride some big lines and float pillows all day long.
