Silverton’s terrain shadowed by their heli.

Late April and in the San Juan’s it still feels like mid January. A couple weeks ago we wrapped a fairly epic trip to Southern Colorado and honestly, considering the snow totals in April we were fools for leaving. Still, we got it good. Just a few days in we hit Silverton-just a taste of how things were shaping up.

Silverton Mountain in itself is like no other lift-serviced resort around. If you are not familiar click here . If you are, revel in these photos. On top of the already insane hike to terrain this year they offered heli drops to the public for the first time. For a mere 150 bucks they can fly you across the cirque to any number of sick lines. This day Wyatt opted for the Gnar Couloir, one of the areas finest. Also, check the action from in and around town. With the legendary Red Mountain Pass and numerous roadside jibs this small corner of Colorado is easily one of the true gems of snowboarding. Along for the ride this time was Rob Kingwill, Peter Benchetler, Wyatt Stasinos as well as Skylar Holgate from Silverton Mountain.

Kingwill rides more than just The North Face.

If you have ever dreamed of waking up firing of a couple shotgun blasts of the deck, taking a crap looking across a majestic valley in sub zero temps and then strapping in and hitting the most epic “cabin run” you can imagine, fear not, there is a place for you. As a bonus to the trip Skylar and Stan (also a guide at Silverton) invited us out to their backcountry cabin a short sled ride out of town. With a view to a kill and some of the sickest shredding in all of the state Treasure Mountain Hut is one of those places we wont soon forget. What started as a personal venture has now turned into an upstart backcountry outfit. Catering to anyone from media and film crews looking for footage to groups of guys who just want to ride untracked lines, these guys will be offering short trips all winter long next season for next to nothing. Check their website and give Stan a call now and see what kind of deal you can strike for next year.

If you haven’t already checked it out, part one of our trip is now up and running on SBTV here .

Stay tuned for more to follow as we circle the San Juan’s over to Monarch Pass and into the Elk Mountains on this three-week journey.
