INTERVIEW and PHOTOS by: KEALAN SHILLING So Bode, give us the current sponsor list. Salomon, Bonfire, Levitation Project, Milo, Celtic, Magical Gogo Wax, and Park City Mountain Resort. So first things first. You got the ender part in Neverland. Total Bangers! You stoked? Yeah, I’m super excited. It was such a big surprise cause at the beginning of last year I really had no projects to work on. I didn’t know what I was doing and finally my TM talked to them and I was able to start going out with them in January. I didn’t really know what was going to happen, but I filmed all year, decided to film my ass off, and I guess it all worked out. Did you find out before you saw the movie that you had the ender? No, I had no idea; I went out to Tahoe to meet up with Justin Hostynek and help out editing my part. They showed me bits and pieces of the movie, but those guys never told me where it was going in the movie or anything. Then at the first premiere the credits popped up after my part and I was pretty much tripping out! Well Congratulations! How do you feel about the your part? Thanks. I feel like I could have done better, it was my first year with those guys and didn’t really get to do the whole travel thing. I was in Salt Lake all year, at home pretty much with a filmer and a couple buddies just going out and shooting all the time. This year I really want to get out there and see what other places have to offer. I had so much fun last year riding with my friends, I definitely don’t want to move away from that entirely because you always produce more when riding with your friends, but I kind of want to get out on the road. Meet new friends, find new areas and new adventures; life of a snowboarder on the road kind of deal. Well I’d say you did pretty damn good for filming a whole part in Salt Lake! There’s a lot of shit that I hadn’t seen before in your part, in that whole video, and when I’d go out with you guys. Yeah, It’s crazy because a lot of people have been saying that you can’t really do much in Salt Lake any more, it’s like all played out, all the rails have been hit and everything, but like pretty much my whole part was filmed in Salt Lake last year; Cales' [Zima] and mine. We found so much new stuff to do in the city especially right down town, or you know, within 15 minutes from my house, it’s crazy! So do you have plans for getting out of Salt Lake to shoot this year? Yeah, Justin just moved up to Nelson, BC and said once it starts snowing up there there’s a lot to do. So I might go up there at some point and hang with him for a bit. I also want to get over to Europe this year. I actually just got back from Europe snowboarding on a glacier called Hintertux in Austria for a Salomon catalog shoot. It was like ten times the size of Hood. It was super fun, but I want to get back over there to ride European pow!
What else have you been up to? Any news we should know about? Well over the summer after I got done filming. In June I got knee surgery, nothing gnarly or anything but in February I landed flat off a pillow line in Jackson. I was there for a day then hurt myself and left. I tore the meniscus in both my knees, so I had to get a scope done - two months down for that. After that I went to hood for a couple weeks and then I went to Europe on the European Absinthe film tour for almost a full month with the whole crew. We were on a tour bus just going from city to city all over Europe in six different countries. It was pretty amazing! Gotta ask - the ender trick! The double misty… did you just go for that first try and stomp it, or had you been working on that one or what? I had it in my head at the beginning of the year. I tried it when I went to Alaska in December and landed a really shitty one after a couple tries. Then later in the year I wanted to get a better one on film so I built that double line, and told myself I was going to try it. Me and Breese [Dan] and Phil [Damianakes] all ro-sham-bo'd and I lost so those guys went first, then I went last, landed it and hung out for the rest of that day and let those guys sesh it. It seems like everyone was doing them this year, but I like to flip it more that spin it. I like going upside-down more. {Laughs}... What have you been doing in your spare time lately? Just trying to skate everyday because I missed out on so much this summer after my surgery. That and playing Super Nintendo and watching movies with my girlfriend. Bode back-lipper Mario or Donkey Kong probably. How are things going with Salomon? Good, last year was the first year I rode for them, they make awesome boards and product, and they really supported me well last season, so I’m super hyped on them. Are they stoked on you right now? I hope so! I’m stoked on them, so I hope they’re stoked. If you could go someplace wild this winter to shred where would you go? Alaska Heli Trip! Anything else? Thanks. Bode pressing one out |
