If they have never ridden
If they have never ridden before I would start them off with the falling leaf. (just side slipping back and forth down the slope) Start them off on their toe side and then when they get comfortable with that I would then have them get used to side slipping with their heel side. When they seem compitent in that I would then try to get them to connect a turn. First and formost let them know that their board is going to go in whatever direction they're looking. Make sure they keep on their toes and then on heel side make sure they are lifting their toes. Also if they don't know if they are goofy or regular walk up behind them and push them pretty hard. What ever foot they put forward first to brace themselves will let you know which foot should be in front when riding.
